The centerline average is the average distance between the microscopic peaks and the valleys in the seal face material.
RMS (root mean square) is another method that is used in the USCU (inch) system.
Root mean square is the square root of the number that represents the mean (middle) distance between the peaks and valleys in the seal face material.
