PUMP AND SEAL
CERTIFICATION FOR INDUSTRY
Pump and Seal certification
............ $149.95
The Certification program allows your company to document some
of the training of engineering, operation and maintenance
personnel to satisfy certain requirements of the OSHA 1910
specification. An eighteen lesson course and reference materials
are supplied to the student and as the individual lessons are
completed they are sent to the Institute for grading and
evaluation.
In addition to the lessons, the student must complete a series
of physical tasks that include pump alignment, bearing
installation, seal installation, etc..
The Certification subject material includes:
- The formulas and conversions you need to deal with:
- Hydraulic forces acting on the rotating shaft.
- Impeller, sleeve and bearing clearances and tolerances.
- Calculating the amount of shaft deflection.
- Predicting pump cavitation.
- Calculating the amount of heat being generated within
the pump.
- The losses in the piping system. so that you can
calculate the head being generated by the pump.
- What happens when you change the diameter of the
impeller or the speed of the shaft.
- And much more.............
- How impeller shape affects the pump curve.
- Simple pump modifications that will increase seal and
bearing life.
- The four types of cavitation and how to recognize and
correct them.
- How to make a system curve and then select the right size
pump for that curve.
- The relationship between centrifugal pump head, pressure,
capacity and liquid velocity.
- The basic rules needed to understand centrifugal pumps.
- An explanation of shaft deflection and how to stop it.
- Operating off of the pump's best effeciency point.
- Dynamic balance of the rotating assembly.
- Alignment between the pump and driver.
- The major types of pump corrosion.
- How to read the rub marks we find at pump disassembly.
- The different types of bearing lubrication.
- The different types of bearing failure and how to correct
them.
- Pump standards.
- The pump affinity laws.
- Series and parallel pump operation
- Balanced and two way balanced seals.
- Classifying chemicals for mechanical seals.
- Choosing the correct seal materials.
- Special seals including metal bellows and split seals.
