INJECTING AIR INTO THE SUCTION SIDE OF THE CENTRIFUGAL PUMP: I026

  • A small amount of air can be injected to reduce both cavitation noise and damage.
    • 0.25 to 0.50 percent seems to be the acceptable number.
    • There is no simple explanation of why this works other than the capacity is reduced and less capacity requires less NPSHR, or the air may be forming a cushion to reduce the impact of collapsing bubbles.
      • I vote for the first explanation.
