Atmospheric pressure

At sea level, atmospheric pressure is 14.7 psi. or in the metric system, 1 bar of pressure. The atmospheric pressure changes with altitude and weather conditions.

In the pump business we add atmospheric pressure to gage pressure to obtain the absolute pressure we need to calculate net positive suction head available (NPSHA), that will tell us if the pump is going to cavitate.
