Carbonic acid

This acid forms when carbon dioxide combines with water to form carbonic acid,

CO2 + H2O = H2CO3

The affect is to lower the pH of boiler water causing the operator to increase the amount of water treatment to maintain the proper pH.

The more water treatment added, translates to more frequent boiler blow downs,

The carbon dioxide enters the condensate system through pump packing, the stem of valves above the water line and gasketed flanges. Each of these areas can be sealed.
